On July 27, Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan held a video conference with Chilean Foreign Minister Miguel Rivera. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on strengthening anti epidemic cooperation and deepening bilateral economic and trade relations. Vice Minister of international economic relations of the Ministry of foreign affairs Yanes and Chinese ambassador to Chile Xu Bu attended the meeting.

Zijin Mountain said that President Xi Jinping and President Pinera had made telephone calls and exchanged correspondence with each other, and reached a series of important consensus on strengthening cooperation in anti epidemic and deepening bilateral relations. China will earnestly implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, provide emergency anti epidemic assistance to Chile, assist Chile in purchasing medical materials in China, and will continue to provide assistance within its ability to fight the epidemic. China’s novel coronavirus pneumonia joint statement was issued jointly by the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of foreign affairs of Chile in July 17th. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Chile. China is willing to take this opportunity to strengthen strategic docking with Chile, deepen economic and trade cooperation, maintain unimpeded trade and investment, maintain the multilateral trade system, and promote a new situation in the economic and trade relations between the two countries.

Rivera expressed his gratitude to China for its strong support for Chile’s anti epidemic efforts. The two sides overcame difficulties in the epidemic and made positive progress in various economic and trade cooperation. Chile is willing to further expand the export of advantageous and characteristic products to China and promote the economic development of the two countries. Chile will work with China to safeguard the free trade and multilateral trade system, oppose protectionism and support the necessary reform of the world trade organization.

After the meeting, the two sides jointly signed the memorandum of understanding on the establishment of a working group on unimpeded trade.
